The growth continues
WMCA welcomed its second employee, a communications and philanthropic development officer in 2023. Two program officers join the organization, in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

In 2023, the WikiConference North America took place in Toronto, ON. It was co-organized by Wikimedia Canada and the WCNA user group. For four days, over 250 participants gathered at the Toronto Reference Library.
In 2024, WMCA and WikiFranca organized the WikiConvention francophone in Quebec, QC. The conference brought together nearly 130 French-speaking contributors from various Wikimedia projects.
Hiring of Wikimedia Canada's first employee

Wikimedia Canada welcomes Louis Germain as Executive Director. The hiring of Louis, Wikimedia Canada’s first employee, meets a strategic objective set out in the strategic transformation plan, which aims to adapt Wikimedia Canada’s governance, operational structure and finances to the association’s growth.
Charitable status obtained
In June 2020, Wikimedia Canada was officially recognized as a charity by the Government of Canada.
Two important milestones
In 2017, Wikimedia Canada hosted Wikimania in Montreal, the largest annual international conference of the Wikimedia Movement.

The Wikipetcia Atikamekw Nehiromowin is also launched in June 2017.

Wikimedia Canada was founded in November 2010 and became an official chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) in May 2011.
