A new chapter for WMCA’s micro grant program

Wikimedia Canada’s micro grant program is a pillar of the organization, supporting open-knowledge events and projects across Canada. The team has been working hard to update and improve the program so it can better serve our communities.

Micro grants are a great way for individuals and non-profit organizations to receive funding up to $1,0001. Applicants must be currently active on any Wikimedia project and be either based in Canada or be Canadian.

Examples of past activities and projects
Wikipetcia:Nanto masinatcikan project – a digitization project done by the Atikamekw community in Quebec to improve the coverage of Atikamekw history and culture on Wikimedia Commons
Weather Observations of the Meteorological Service of Canada project – a collaboration with the Meteorological Service of Canada to make data from Canadian weather observation towers available on Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata
Indigenous History Month edit-a-thon – an editing event hosted by Dalhousie Libraries aimed at improving the coverage of Mi’kma’ki and Mi’kmaw peoples on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons
University of Victoria Resident Wikipedian Translation project – a project undertaken to ensure English, French, and Atikamekw speakers in Canada would be able to engage with talks presented by the UVic Honorary Resident Wikipedian
