Wikiclub Toronto hosted Wikipedia’s 25th birthday on January 18, 2026. We had over 45 editors attend, each with a variety of Wikimedia experience, including readers, casual editors, and extended permission users. Many Wikimedia projects were represented, including several language Wikipedias, Wikidata, and Wikivoyage.

The event started off with self-introductions by attendees and introductions by co-organizers. Organizers gave a quick walkthrough on WikiConference North America 2026 in Edmonton and the scholarship application process, which we encourage all Wikimedia Canada members to attend. Organizers also informed the attendees on microgrants offered by Wikimedia Canada and their eligibility criteria. A quick roundtable introduced the participants to other sister projects such as Commons, Wikidata, Wikibooks, and Wikivoyage. A brief history of Wikivoyage and its relationship with Wikitravel was presented.

During lunch, Hatnote played in the background, indicating Wikipedia’s recent changes feed. Attendees were then broken up into smaller groups for more focused discussions on topics such as beginner steps for editing Wikipedia, languages, governance, Wikivoyage tutorial, and one-on-one ad-hoc discussions.

Our next event is the WikiDiaspora event in February 2026. Event organisers are also discussing possible events and collaborations. If you are interested in helping to organise events, have an event you want to collaborate on, or want information on how to run events in your city, please reach out to Wikimedia Canada or WikiClub Toronto. A special thanks goes out to the event organisers and Wikimedia Canada for making this event possible.
